Mealwise values your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, retain and protect information generated when you use Mealwise.
Updated: September 20, 2026Mealwise iOS App
1. Information we collect
Meal records, dish photos, ingredient lists, frequently eaten dishes, recipes, taste preferences, avoided ingredients and notes that you provide or save.
Information used to sign in, recover your account or purchase a membership, such as your email address, Apple sign-in identifier, device identifier, membership entitlements, and purchase or purchase-restoration status.
Information necessary for features you choose to use, including the camera, Photos, voice input and notifications. This may include photos, image files, speech transcripts and push notification identifiers.
Basic logs used for security, troubleshooting and service improvement, such as API request status, error information, device platform, app version and necessary diagnostic data.
Mealwise does not request geographical location or infer your city from your IP address. Network addresses may be processed for service delivery and security. Device time zones are used for dates and reminders.
2. How we use information
We use this information to record meals, recognize dishes, manage ingredients, suggest recipes, display meal reports, provide personalized recommendations and synchronize membership entitlements.
Photos and images may be used for dish recognition, meal records, food library images, AI analysis or image storage. Voice input is used only for ingredient entry or transcription that you initiate.
Push notification identifiers are used only for Mealwise reminders and membership or account notifications. We do not use them for advertising tracking.
3. AI and third-party services
Mealwise may use Sign in with Apple, Apple App Store in-app purchases, APNs, object storage, email services, AI services and monitoring services to provide the relevant features.
When you use AI recognition, AI image generation, recommendations or recipe suggestions, we may send AI services the text, image URLs, dish names, ingredients or preferences needed to complete your request.
We aim to provide third parties only with information necessary for the feature and require them to protect data under their privacy policies, terms of service and applicable laws.
AI recognition, nutrition estimates and recommendations support everyday recordkeeping and choices. They are not medical diagnoses, treatment advice or professional nutrition prescriptions.
When product analytics is enabled, we use PostHog (US Cloud) to measure onboarding, feature use and membership conversion. We send a pseudonymous account identifier, event time, selected screen or plan, operation outcome and verified subscription event type. For a successfully completed, explicitly submitted discovery search, we also send a normalized, length-limited keyword and whether results were found, including when cached results are shown. We use these keywords to identify missing dishes and improve keyword matching, not to build individual search profiles. We do not collect keystrokes. Conservative filters exclude suspected contact details, URLs, credentials and personal or health narratives, but cannot recognize every sensitive input; please avoid entering personal or health information in discovery search. Filtered searches are excluded from keyword statistics. Other analytics events do not send free text, meal or health details, photos, voice recordings, recipe text, credentials or raw error messages to PostHog. Automatic screen recording, interaction capture and location enrichment are disabled. Analytics is enabled in production apps and services; local development builds and services do not send analytics.
4. Retention, security and sharing
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including access controls, secure transmission, permission checks and necessary audit logs.
User-uploaded and AI-generated images may be stored in object storage and accessed through controlled links for display or recognition in the app.
If you enable anonymous account recovery, the feature may save recovery credentials for the account on this device. These credentials help recover the account and do not contain meal records.
Except as needed to provide the service, comply with laws and regulations, or protect users and service security, we do not sell your personal information or use it for advertising tracking.
5. Your choices and rights
You can turn off camera, Photos, microphone and notification permissions in system settings. Features that rely on those permissions may then be unavailable.
You can view and edit meal records, ingredients, preferences and privacy settings in the app, and request account deletion.
After account deletion, we delete or anonymize personal data associated with the account, except information that must be retained by law or is necessary for security audits.

6. Minors
Mealwise is not specifically intended for children. Minors should use the app with the consent and guidance of a parent or guardian.
If a parent or guardian believes a minor has provided information they should not have provided, please contact our support email for assistance.
7. Policy updates and contact
If this policy changes materially, we will notify you through in-app pages, release notes or other reasonable means.
